Two years ago my mother and I went to a local amusement park. The greatest feature – or so we thought – of the park was the water park.
We were at the water park for about five hours. It was a very sunny day and very hot, but we were prepared very 45SPF water & sweat resistant sunscreen. We thought we would be protected.
…Except that we put the sunscreen on immediately before going into the water, and only reapplied once. What we should have done is applied the sunscreen at least fifteen minutes prior to being out in the sun and in the water, and reapplied hourly.
We paid for our mistake with horrific sunburn all over our bodies. We were swollen, leaking fluids, and couldn’t put clothes on, shower without help or function normally for over a week.
But I definitely learned from my horrific, damaging and painful mistake! This year I applied sunscreen to myself and my kids about thirty-five minutes prior to going to the pool, and I reapplied the sunscreen an hour after we got there, and an hour after that. Despite it being a very hot, sunny day, we had no sunburn whatsoever.
