A Subway rant

A letter I just fired off to Subway:

To whom it may concern:
Is it customary for your stores to close approximately twelve minutes early?

This evening I decided to make a quick stop for four subs for my family on the way home. I parked right outside of the Subway store at exactly 9:48. I was inside your store less than a minute later.

Despite all of the store’s lights being on, the door being unlocked and the hours clearly stated as being until 10pm, the two employees inside the store – one who said her name was Katrina – had already put away and/or thrown away all of the food, and were in the process of wiping down the boards when I came in.
The clock on the wall in the store read 9:50.

So I repeat: is it customary for your stores to always close at least ten to twelve minutes early (yet having all signs and lights on and the door unlocked, leading people to believe that the store is indeed open)? Please let me know, so I can plan my future trips, if I even bother to make any after this infuriating experience, more accordingly.

Thank you,
Jennifer [last name]

  1. Jenn, you said “the door being unlocked and the hours clearly stated as being until 10pm,” instead of 11pm, I think. :-/ But anyway, I work in food service (ice cream shop haha) and no matter how much we want to get out of there we don’t start doing any of the major work until 11:01pm in case we get stragglers.

  2. I actually worked at a Subway. And even though I know that job completely blows, no, they can’t do that. They can’t put anything away until 10:00 on the dot. And they really shouldn’t have left the door unlocked if they were going to cheat because if the owner of the store is able to figure out who was working when this happened, they WILL be fired according to corporate policy.
