When Alyssa was about three months old, I took on a job as a student loan officer. After going through a vigorous two week training session during which I learned everything and everything under the sun about student loans, financial aid and debt consolidation student loans, I was turned loose on the “floor”. My job as a student loan officer was to call individuals who had outstanding student loans and
pressure encourage them to consolidate their loans with us. I have to admit, the monthly payment options were fantastic. And so were the online student loan consolidation options.
One night while I was at work, I decided to check on the status of my husband’s student loans. I’m really glad I did, as they were two days away from defaulting. If those loans had defaulted, we would not have have been able to consolidate them or even pay on them without the benefit of consolidation. It would have been a HUGE mess with collections, and a HUGE blemish on my husband’s credit report.
