A few years ago my mom took advantage of a poor credit remortgage, and was able to get her monthly mortages payments reduced to very manageable amounts. She also invested in mortgage payment protection, which ensured she would never lose her house or mortgage in the event of a financial crisis.
These days, too many people get duped by banks and loan companies and the like with loans they really can’t afford, and then risk to lose it all. Banks need to be more careful with their dealings with customers who really can’t afford the loans and payments banks want to give them. Also, customers need to educate themselves on mortgages, and use calculators and budget estimates to come up with an accurate payment amount that they can afford.
That is exactly what we did with our mortgage. We haggled and wittled down our monthly mortgage payment to an amount we could afford. So far, six months into paying our mortgage, things are going well!
