I can’t begin to tell you how much I love myself for switching over to VoIP. Until last November, we had regular landline telephone service. Don’t get me wrong – I have nothing against landlines, the fees (since I pay them no matter what type of phone service I use), and even the phone lines. But, I have everything against outrageous telephone bills. Let me tell you about our last landline provider, Commonwealth/Frontier. Somehow, we managed to accumulate $140 monthly phone bills. God knows how, as we had no “extras” other then caller ID. We never made long distance calls, and we didn’t have any other services on the line. The last straw was our October phone bill – $211. $211 for perhaps two dozen phone calls made to my husband, his job and my mother.
It was then that I made the switch to VoIP, and I haven’t ever looked back.
The benefits to using internet telephone service are very clear and concise. For low monthly fees – the basic ones at Packer8 being only $29.99! – you get unlimited calling, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, call return, call blocking, call forwarding, and even three way calling. Other cool VoIP-only features include online account management, network unavailable forwarding to the number of your choosing, do not disturb services (remind me to try these out!), and voicemail notifications sent to your email.
Needless to say, I am a huge fan of VoIP phone service, and I really like what Packet8 has to offer. In addition to their plans that are at excellent prices, I really like the concept of video phones. Packet8′s videophones are phones that work as phones and also as mini-TVs that you can broadcast yourself and your family on!
Currently Packet8 offers two phones – the VideoPhone DV326 and the Packet8 Tango. The big difference is that the VideoPhone DV32 requires you to provide your own camera equipment, while the Packet8 Tango comes with a camera! My choice of the two would most definitely be the Tango, as there is no other equipment to fuss with and hook up. The phone comes ready to display and send audio and video!
What do you think of Packet8 and VoIP in general?
