I use several WordPress plugins on jenn.nu. And by “several”, I mean close to three dozen of them. While they’re all very useful, I have a few favorites. They are:
Ask Me:
Ask Me is a ask & answer script that is specifically a WordPress plugin. Installation is easy, and it is easy to use and easy to customize. Questions are held on moderation, and even after they’re answered they are only approved and thus displayed if the admin specifies.
Maintenance Mode:
Maintenance mode makes your site unavailable to unregistered users (and even registered users, if you modify some settings) while showing it to you. This makes the installation of themes and plugins or modification of existing themes very convenient! No more “test” sites or late night marathons. Now you can work on your site at any time of day or night on your own site, so you’ll see the results on your real site right away.
Role Manager:
Role Manager, in conjunction with ViewLevel2 (see the next plugin), sets up your site so that users must register and then be approved – “upgraded” to a specific user level and status – before being able to view certain posts.
ViewLevel2:
ViewLevel2 makes it so that posts of your choosing are hidden from users below a certain level.
WordPress Database Backup:
Wordpress Database Backup is a plugin that will automatically create a backup of your WordPress database and email it to you or upload it to several at intervals of your choosing. This is great for guaranteeing that you’ll always have backups on hand, for the “just in case” times!
