My T-Mobile Dash

In August, I decided to treat myself to a T-Mobile Dash. For the most part, I really, really like it! I have three minor complaints about the Dash, and they are, in no particular order:

  • There is very little spacing between the keys. I realize that T-Mobile was looking to create a compact little phone, but I would gladly deal with a phone that was half an inch or even an inch wider, if it meant having a QWERTY keyboard that was easier to type on
  • There is no close/exit option for any program. Instead, to kill a program – or a “task”, in this case – I have to go to the Task Manager and choose to kill selected, all but selected, or everything
  • I cannot get the Dash to connect to a WPA secured network to save my life. I prefer WPA over WEP, because I like setting the custom, hard to crack password, as opposed to dealing with randomly generated network keys. Since I’m stuck with WEP, I did my best – high encryption and 30 character network keys.

Otherwise, I really love my phone. It’s great to be able to check my email wherever I am, and hop onto the internet wherever I am. Bonus if I’m in a WIFI area.

I have AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo on my cell phone. So far I haven’t used anything but MSN, and last night created a separate MSN identity, just for my cellphone – cellphone@jenn.nu. Talk to me. :)

  1. IMHO I wouldn’t use WEP or WPA for your wireless network. I would use WPA2-PSK. WPA2-PSK is currently the most secure wifi encryption scheme available to the average user. But the only problem with that is Dan’s DS. The Nintendo DS ONLY supports WEP so if you upgrade to anything more secure Dan’s DS will no longer be able to connect to the internet.

As for the programs not exiting a friend of mine swears by SPB Mobile Shell:

They offer a 30 day free trial. I would give that a shot and see if it works well for your needs.

Hrm… Creating a separate MSN identity just for my cell phone… That’s a great idea I wonder why I didn’t think of that before…
