I would use WPA2-PSK. WPA2-PSK is currently the most secure wifi encryption scheme available to the average user. But the only problem with that is Dan's DS. The Nintendo DS ONLY supports WEP so if you upgrade to anything more secure Dan's DS will no longer be able to connect to the internet. As for the programs not exiting a friend of mine swears by SPB Mobile Shell: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en They offer a 30 day free trial.
