Right now I am at my grandparents’ home, doing some last minute walk throughs to pick up anything that my grandfather may want, or that my mother or myself may want as memories. Needless to say, it is hard to be here. My grandmother had such high hopes and dreams when they bought this home in the the fall of 2003, and especially as they began to move in during April of 2004. But her health began to deteriorate, rapidly. She was not getting the level of care she should have from her doctors, and between that and her health failing, she died in December of 2004.
Almost three years later, and this home still doesn’t look lived in. Things are half unpacked, boxes and bags are everywhere, and the dust… and vacancy of it all.
I have come across letters and cards that I sent to my grandparents from ten, even fifteen and twenty years ago. I found a box of old coins. Some of them date back to the early 1900s. Some are even older than that.
Right now I’m using my grandfather’s computer. It’s an HP that my mother bought for him a few months after my grandmother died, in the hopes that he would use it and get enjoyment out of it. He did, for the most part.
Anyway, back to rummaging through memories!
