A couple of years ago I picked up The Book of Questions: Love & Sex by Gregory Stock. Every little bit Dan or myself will take it out of the bookshelf, open it up and flip to a random page, and ask the other whatever particular question is on that page. Of course, we’ll also give our own answer. I haven’t kept track, but I’m sure that at some point our answers have changed. Or they will change. That comes with age and maturity and the ever evolving relationships and dynamics.
Here’s a random question from the book: If drugs or alcohol dramatically enhanced you and your partner’s pleasure in sex, would you want to use them regularly?
No, for three reasons.
- We are parents, and because we are parents we cannot risk the wellbeing and safety of our children by experimenting with things that can have lasting effects – hangovers, drugged state of mind, etc.
- It would grate me to no end to know that I would have to “rely” on something to enhance pleasure.
- I wouldn’t want to spend the money!
Anyway, it is time for bed. All four kids are asleep – Alyssa is actually in our bed. I am very tired, and am eagerly looking forward to a nice ten hours of sleep! I could go for more, but considering my mother and I will be leaving the house tomorrow morning around 9:15am, I’ll have to get up at 8. Well, 8 certainly beats 6:30!
