November!?

I just realized that it’s November. You know what that means? The official start of the holiday season. At least, according to stores! While I know that the official “kickoff” doesn’t happen until Black Friday, every store I have been in has all of their Christmas decorations up, and is pushing Christmas decorations, Christmas cards, and loads and loads of gifts. Speaking of Black Friday, does anyone have any special plans for Black Friday? Honestly, I usually stay indoors on Black Friday. I have no desire to be mauled and manhandled in stores and deal with stupid people who shouldn’t take up the air that the breathe, let along have a license to drive a motor vehicle. But this year, in a desire to save money, I am tentatively thinking about scouring the sales ads and going out on Black Friday. Note that I said I am tentatively. It’s really kind of up in the air right now.

I can’t imagine going through all of the crazy shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Turkey and big meals make me sleepy, and I usually spend the Friday afterwards sleeping in!

And on a related note, I need to get the kids ready and over to Picture People for their holiday photo. Though maybe this year we’ll do a family one together for our cards. It sounds cheesy, and IS cheesy, but it’s still nice. We have a red dress with white trim for Alyssa (this dress from Target), so I’m thinking a white dress shirt and a red bow tie or tie for Ryan, a red sweater or shirt for Dan, and a white sweater or shirt for myself. The problem with having red on more than one person is making sure that all of the red items match. There are many shades of red… maroon… burgundy… brick… maroon… scarlet… ruby…

  1. Going out on Black Friday is not as bad as you think it is. I have gone shopping for the last five years on Black Friday and it is fun, and I have never been man handled or even argued with anyone at all. The deals are way worth making the trip out.
