After watching an episode of Judge Judge, I’m going to pose the same question to you, kitty.nu viewers, as Judy did to the defendant:
Why would you choose to live with someone, start a life with someone, buy a house with someone, get into debt with someone, even have children with someone, but not get married?
Really, why would you do that? Is there some sort of hidden benefit I’m not aware of? Unless you’re trying to hide something, screw over the government or be able to make a clean break if the need should arise, I don’t see any reason to NOT get married. If anything, I only see complications and problems.
But then again, perhaps I’m a bit biased, as I firmly believe in the tradition of marriage.

Some people don’t believe in the institution of marriage. Not everyone needs a piece of paper to show the world that they’re committed. I know a couple who have three children together and their fourth is the mother’s child from a previous marriage, the parents each make six figures annually, they’ve been together for over 10 years and they have no desire to ever “make a clean break”. They’ve both had failed marriages and don’t see the need to go through the official process just to get a piece of paper. Just because they don’t conform to society’s view of what a “real” family is doesn’t mean they’re trying to screw the government over or avoid divorce lawyer fees.
