Hello!

My name is Jenn, and I'm a 27 year old married and babied chick. In addition to a husband, a seven year old daughter, and a five year old autistic son, I also have four cats, three hermit crabs, two frogs, a few fish, and one snorty little Pug. I work from home doing a variety of writing and even some web design. I love blogging, digital photography and web design.

About Kitty.nu

Kitty.nu has been around for several years. Once upon a time it was home to my personal blog (you can find that over at Jenn.nu), but it now serves as an outlet for my domesticated and wifey type ramblings.

Goodbye wisdom teeth

Category:

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out yesterday. My lower left wisdom tooth has been impacted since December 2005, but at the time I was pregnant with Ryan, so I didn’t do anything about it. Then I was breastfeeding Ryan, and then we were broke, and then we were moving, and then we didn’t have health insurance (we could afford it for Alyssa and Ryan, but not for ourselves). Well, we finally got health insurance in October. I had my brothers at the time, so I didn’t want to undergo surgery, so instead I went for contacts. :P

Anyway, I went to the dentist last week, the oral surgeon on Monday, and back yesterday morning for the surgery. I was such a wreck last night. I was doing good until 10pm. Then I had awful anxiety until I finally passed out around 5am this morning. I was tired, but too nervous to sleep, so I watched Nip/Tuck until 5am. Dan was sweet enough to stay up and watch with me, even though he had just come home from work, and knew he would be getting up with me to go to the surgery, and would then be bringing me home and responsible for Alyssa and Ryan.

I have no clue how the surgery went because I was put under general anesthesia, due to the severe impaction, and the fact that the impacted tooth was resting right on top of a nerve, and to nick that nerve if I were to move or jerk around would not be a good thing.
If the dentist or dental assistants said anything to me regarding how surgery went, I don’t remember it, because I was so fucking out of it. I was doing good to walk from the operating room to the recovery room with the aid of two dental assistants, and later from the recovery room to Dan with the help of one dental assistant, and to the car, and then into the house, with the help of Dan.

Oddly enough, what had me so worked up about the surgery wasn’t the procedure itself – I’m not that squeamish, and I kind of knew what to expect afterward from when Dan had his wisdom teeth yanked (though he was lucky to not have any impacted teeth, and was not put under). I was freaked out about being put under. I’ve never had that before, and, crazy as it sounds, the thought of it scared me to death, even though I still preferred it over being awake for the procedure.
The anesthesiologist was great though. I told the oral surgeon about my anxiety, and mentioned it to her. She settled me in the chair, and we made small talk about our kids and toddlers and choosing not to have more while she put the IV in. She told me she would be putting in a tiny bit of medicine to calm my nerves, and would administer the actual anesthesia later. All I remember after that is the oral surgeon coming in and saying hello, and then I was out. I woke up when it was time to go to the recovery room. You know, anesthesia is weird… I felt awake, but like I was under a really thick layer of unconsciousness. I can’t explain it, but it was weird. And thank god. I didn’t get sick at all. They did not put any type of painkillers into my IV, so you better believe our first stop was to CVS and I popped a Vicodin as soon as we got home around 10:45am!

I bled all over the kitchen floor, my shirt and towel when I attempted to take a drink. So, I gave up on that and made two attempts at swallowing the Vicodin before I got it down. Dan helped me change the bloody gauze packing, and then I went to sleep until almost 3pm. I went back to bed at 3:30pm and popped up a little after 5.

I ate about eight ounces of applesauce last night, and it took me almost a half an hour to do so. I don’t have anything to eat right now, and I’m starved. :( Thankfully, Dan is getting up and is on his way out to the grocery store to pick up loads of Jenn-friendly foods – applesauce, soups, baby foods, etc.

My mom was great last night… My paycheck for last week’s freelance work is overdue due to some Paypal issues (on the company’s side, not mine), so instead of having $250 to pay for the due-today surgery bill ($67), medication and food, we had to borrow $70 from my mom to pay for the due-today surgery bill. We had enough to pay the $4 co-pay on the Vicodin (painkillers were a MUST, I was NOT going home without them!), but not for the $60 antibiotics or the $17 mouthwash. Again, Mom to the rescue… she called yesterday evening and said she had talked to Dan at work, and will be coming over ASAP with my antibiotics, mouthwash and whatever food I need. We needed a lot, actually, so I emailed Dan a detailed list to tell her (again, talking is VERY VERY PAINFUL). We were out of milk, lactaid, juice, cheese, bread, butter and cereal. The kids finished off the last of the milk yesterday morning. I made a full out meat/two sides meal last night, not because I wanted to, but because there was nothing else TO make, aside from sauce-less spaghetti or macaroni and cheese with water and… water. I had originally made hamburger helper, but the kids weren’t too enthused with it, so it hit the trash.
