So I just spent some time looking around YawpBox. Crazy sounding and looking name aside, YawpBox is one of the newest movie uploading and sharing websites to hit the internet. It may never be as big as YouTube, but I’m sure it has the potential to gather its own impressive following.
One thing that YawpBox seems to have over YouTube is the fact that it isn’t an “anything goes” video sharing site. I admit it, when I’m looking for a funny television commercial, a poignant moment on a television show or in a movie, or a music video, I hit up YouTube — as does millions of other people. No, YawpBox isn’t like that. Instead, YawpBox seems to be more of a video blogging/network site. The main page lists the following categories that I’ve based my opinion on: events, accidental, adventurous/outrageous, funny/stupid, miraculous, romantic and serious.
Of course, no video uploading and sharing site is complete without its ability to offer potential fame and riches to its members. YawpBox is working on YawpBox TV, which is an actual television show that will be filmed before a live studio audience in Texas every week! What makes the show so incredibly unique is that the content of the show is all from member submissions to YawpBox! The hosts are Terry and Lex, and their goal is to create a lively, entertaining show with great comedy value, with content that is 100% original and all found on YawpBox.com.
Speaking of Lex and Terry… they have a challenge going on. The challenge is simple: film your own video/commercial that meets the criteria of your chosen topic (see the challenge page for all of the topics. Some interesting ones include “cross dress challenge” and “Brokeback Mountain Re-Enactment: The way it should have been”. I thought about entering these myself, as my husband seems to have quite the creative mind when it comes to videos, but honestly, I am NOT that good in front of a camera! I, sadly (but fortunately for all of the potential scarred viewers), will stick to writing.
