Several years ago I found a discounted piece of cat furniture at Walmart. It was marked down from $70 to $30. It featured a large, thick post that stretched floor to ceiling (and stayed in place with the use of a sturdy tension rod), and it had five or six different shelves to place at different levels along the post. I’m sure it was intended as a huge scratching post, but our cats used it as a place to perch and survey their kingdoms. They continued to use their other places – our bed, the carpet and the door frame – as their scratching areas!
