Hello!

My name is Jenn, and I'm a 27 year old married and babied chick. In addition to a husband, a seven year old daughter, and a five year old autistic son, I also have four cats, three hermit crabs, two frogs, a few fish, and one snorty little Pug. I work from home doing a variety of writing and even some web design. I love blogging, digital photography and web design.

About Kitty.nu

Kitty.nu has been around for several years. Once upon a time it was home to my personal blog (you can find that over at Jenn.nu), but it now serves as an outlet for my domesticated and wifey type ramblings.

Owning a Persian cat

Category:

Persian cats are beautiful cats, and they are a joy to own. Not only are the bred to be gorgeous balls of fluff, but they are also bred to be very friendly, sweet and docile kitties.

But before you jump to a breeder or cat rescue, consider the following extras you’ll need to do for a Persian cat on a routine basis:

Eye wiping is pretty simple. Most pet stores sell cat friendly eye wipes that are safe and gentle enough to use on cats and kittens alike, around the delicate eye area. You can plan on wiping your Persian cat’s eyes at least once a week.

Butt trimming refers to the trimming of the fur that grows around the anus. Why? One instance of your cat having a soft stool and you won’t need to ask. Trust me on this: you’ll want to trim the surrounding fur as short as possible.

With butt trimming, the best position to accomplish it in is to press the cat flat against a counter top, kitchen table, or other waist height or higher surface that is clean, uniform and stable. Keep the cat pressed down firmly by angling your arm over him. The hand of that arm should then take hold of the cat’s tail and hold it straight up. Use your other hand to position the scissors and carefully snip away the fur around the anus. Use a baby wipe to clean any existing messes, if necessary.

I can tell you right now that cats don’t like butt trims. They don’t like their eyes being wiped either, but they really don’t like the butt trims. So I recommend doing it as fast as possible, and giving your cat a treat afterwards. Also, have some Neosporin on hand to treat any scratches you might have on your arm or torso as a result of the cat trying to push off with his back feet in an attempt to get away.

And don’t forget brushing, to try and keep their beautiful fur from getting matted.
