I am lacking in domestic skills, and here are a few reasons why:

• In my cooking history, I have managed to burn macaroni & cheese (I let it boil dry), make pancakes that turned out like rocks, and baked flat cookies numerous times.
• I bought the cheapest iron I could find at Wal-Mart. In the three and a half years I’ve had it, I have used it approximately four different times — to iron on iron-on-transfers onto t-shirts.
• I inherited a quality, durable, long lasting and impressive Singer sewing machine from my grandmother. I promptly turned it over to my husband.
• I don’t know how to carve a chicken.
• I have never made a pie.
• I make my husband make the pie crusts for our chicken pot pie.
• I don’t do barbecues.
• My mom never trusted me around her washer and dryer, so I had to learn for myself when my husband and I moved to Pittsburgh together in August of 2002.

But I was a good housewife today. I made meals. I did dishes. I ran the dishwasher. I cleaned out the fridge, and scrubbed out the microwave. I cleaned both bathrooms, scooped both litter boxes and gathered up all of the trash. I swept the kitchen floor, mopped it and both bathroom floors, and vacuumed the entire house. I’m also starting on this week’s laundry, beginning with two loads worth of the kids’ clothes.

I’m also a super awesome mommy, because I did all of that while still getting my own work done, and letting the kids take an hour long bath with lots and lots of bubbles:
