Despite the first bath of stimulus checks being delivered to individuals with social security numbers ending in 00-20, our bank account was not blessed with $1800 this week.
After some digging around, I found out why. We use TurboTax each year to file our taxes. While we do select direct deposit as our refund receiving method, we choose to allow Santa Barbara Bank and Trust (SBBT) to deduct filing fees and a refund fee from our deposit when it comes back to us, rather than pay for the fees up front.
This means that the refund our path takes looks like this:
So our refund was sent to us direct deposit, but that was after it went to SBBT so they could deduct the fees from it.
Bottom line, because of using SBBT, the IRS will not be sending our refund to our bank account, because they don’t have our bank account details! Instead, it’ll be coming to us via a paper check.
So instead of already having our refund, or having it by the end of this week, we won’t have it until next week. Boo. :/
