I took my mom to a wound care center today. Back in November of 2007, she developed some sort of callous on the bottom of her right foot. She used lotion, and then a pumice stone, nail file and nail clippers to soften and work at getting rid of it. Well, it didn’t work, and the callous developed into a circular shaped, open wound on the bottom of her foot, and it has gotten deeper over time. It oozes blood and weeps plasma all of the time.
Anyway, it turns out that the open sore is a diabetic ulcer. In addition to being a diabetic, my mom also has high blood pressure and neuropathy, which complicates things. And since she let it go so long, it’s now deeper, her entire foot is swollen, and the specialist that examined her foot today is worried about a possible bone infection.
An x-ray was ordered today, and the specialist did was preliminary cleaning. He instructed my mom to keep off of her feet for the next week, until the next appointment, when the results of the swabs and the x-rays will be back.
I’m hoping it’s nothing serious, and that with treatment it will heal. My grandfather had a scratch on his foot that got infected and resulted in two of his toes being amputated.
La la la. I’m tired right now. I pointed my mom to this list broker page, as she is looking for some information on that subject. I’m getting some work done, and then looking forward to going to bed, asap!

That sounds nasty! I hope it heals properly!
Thank you! I do too. It doesn’t pain my mom, since she doesn’t have feeling in her feet, but it bleeds a lot, and if left untreated it can turn into gangrene, and possibly result in an amputation.
