I talked to the IRS

Last week I got fed up with checking our mailbox every single day and having my hopes dashed every single day. So I decided to call the IRS. But before I did, I ran through the Where’s My Stimulus Payment? page. This time, instead of getting a message about my status not being available, I received the following:

There is a delay in processing your Stimulus payment.

Hmm. Finally, some information! Not what I wanted to see, but it was certainly better than getting a message telling me that there was no information available.

So as instructed, I called 1-800-829-0582 and entered extension 726.

Amazingly, I was on hold for a mere 19 minutes (19 minutes! I’ve been on hold with my cable company longer than that!) before being put through to a real, live, English speaking human being.

Our tax return is delayed because of an amendment we filed at the end of March. Our original return had been filed around the 27th of January, and it was accepted by the first week of February, with our refund being deposited into our account (via direct deposit through TurboTax/SBBT) on February 9th.

So, it’s the amendment that held things up. Boo. Our amendment was filed to include a forgotten W2, and to claim an energy tax credit. So our final refund of $178 is holding up our stimulus payment of close to $2000.

The guy said to expect the stimulus payment by the end of June. Well, we’re into June now, so we’ll see! We want to try to get the deck, some garden decor, and of course, catch up on bills.

  1. That’s good that you phoned to follow it up and at least have SOME idea of what’s going on!
