What makes it okay?

Can someone tell me why smokers think it’s perfectly acceptable to dispose of their used cigarettes on the ground, rather than in a trash can? Every time I see someone throw a cigarette butt out of their car window, I secretly hope that it blows back in through an open back window and sets their car ablaze (and subsequently damages the vehicle, but not any occupants). My blood boils when I have to pull Alyssa and Ryan away from cigarette butts strewn in parking lots and on sidewalks and walkways.

Why is it acceptable to litter with cigarette butts?

I think it might be considered dangerous to throw a lit cigarette away, especially if the trash is dry. It could end up setting the trash on fire, which I’ve seen happen. Those little cigarette disposers melt a lot too when people throw lit cigarettes in them… so I guess people just thnik it’s easier to throw it on the ground (I’ve never seen a cigarette light grass on fire, but that would be interesting).

I live with/am engaged to a smoker so I’ve seen it all.
