I remember the first time I wanted to buy something online. It was a domain name and a hosting plan from a web hosting company. I can’t even tell you what web hosting company I used, and I won’t tell you the domain name (my very first; god it was so embarrassing now that I look back on it, ack!), but I do remember that the domain name was ridiculously priced at $40.00 per year, and the hosting plan I chose was very modest, but still cost $30 per month.
At the time, I had to beg and plead with my mom to trust the big, bad internet with her credit card. At that time we really didn’t know about using a prepaid Visa card for an online purchase, so it took me several days of promising my mom that nothing bad would happen, that her credit card information wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands. Finally, my pleading and cajoling and promises wore her down: the credit card was handed over, and the overpriced domain name and accompanying hosting plan were purchased.
But you know, my mom was paranoid for a reason. The sad and scary truth is that credit card information, bank account information and online account logins fall into the wrong hands all the time. I have been lucky so far: with seven years of internet purchases under my belt, not once I have been screwed over.
But since the reality is indeed there, it’s always a good idea to have a back up plan if your information is compromised. Or better still, try and prevent your financial identity from falling into the wrong hands. One idea is to use Stop Shield. Learn More about Stop Shield by clicking the following: Visit Shop Shield®
But I will give you a basic rundown: Stop Shield is a free service, and enables consumers to use Stop Shield as a shield between their information and the merchant they want to purchase a product or service from. The service is in public beta testing right now, so go check it out at stopshield.net!
