So I’m sure you’ve heard about the pregnancy pact made at a high school here in the United States. If you haven’t heard about it, then you’re living under a rock. Anyway, what’s going on is that many girls in a high school have made a pact amongst themselves to become pregnant, have their babies and raise their babies together. Sadly, seventeen of these girls are pregnant as a result of this pact and going out and finding potential sperm “donors” (rumor has it a 24 year old homeless man is one of the “donors”).
There’s a slight debate happening at Lavish about this. Who’s responsible for this ridiculousness? The girls? The parents? The school system? The community.
I vote other: ALL OF THE ABOVE. The girls are responsible for making such a foolish decision, of course, but you have to wonder what kind of parental involvement is going on. In addition, what about the school? The community? More needs to be done in terms of educating children and teenagers as well, and obviously many parents can’t handle it on their own. And even if they do, smart people do make dumb decisions. That’s where schools, communities and other trusted individuals and groups need to step in. It takes a village to raise a child.
