Hello!

My name is Jenn, and I'm a 27 year old married and babied chick. In addition to a husband, a seven year old daughter, and a five year old autistic son, I also have four cats, three hermit crabs, two frogs, a few fish, and one snorty little Pug. I work from home doing a variety of writing and even some web design. I love blogging, digital photography and web design.

About Kitty.nu

Kitty.nu has been around for several years. Once upon a time it was home to my personal blog (you can find that over at Jenn.nu), but it now serves as an outlet for my domesticated and wifey type ramblings.

I shaved a cat and I survived it

Category:

When I got Leah back in September, the one subjected I neglected to give some thought was flea prevention. So, surprise surprise, walking her and having her outside multiple times a day resulted in her getting a few fleas. They jumped to Simon (white Persian cat) and had a field day with him. I washed Leah and her bedding last week, and put a Zodiac flea collar on her. I also put collars on Blueboy and Kirin. So far Blueboy hasn’t shown any sign of fleas, and the few Kirin had were wiped out when I sprayed him down with flea-killing spray.

But Simon… Simon definitely needed some work. I was just going to take him to the groomer and pay $60+ for a shave and dip… but tonight said screw it and decided to do it myself. Several months ago my mom found an old Oster A-5 animal grooming clipper set that belonged to my grandparents and gave it to me. It may have been purchased in 1978 (the original receipt is still in the box!), but it’s like new, with tubes of oil, brushes, some other accessories, and even a spare, never-opened size 10 blade in the original packaging!

It took an hour, some sweat and blood (both mine), a killer back ache and various “holds” to keep Simon still and his teeth and claws away from me, but I got the job done.

I’ll let him regain some of his dignity tonight, and tomorrow he’s hitting the tub!

I’ve thought about shaving my long hair cat but never got around to it.. giving 3 short hairs cats and a long hair cat tones of baths last year wasn’t fun.

LMAO poor Simon! I was trying to think of a LOLcat caption for this scenario, but I couldn’t! :(

  4. Aww, poor cat. I could just imagine doing that, cats are ornery animals.
