As odd of a question as it may be, I often ask visitors — family members, my son’s therapists, friends, etc. — how it smells in my house. You see, this house, while not that big, certainly has enough living creatures under its roof! Two children (one that is still in diapers), two adults, four cats, a dog, three hermit crabs, and the most recent addition of two water frogs. Between the diaper pail, the litter box and the dog itself, it’s not hard to believe that things could get a little smelly.
Of course, I do my best to combat the smell. I scoop the litter box daily, and dump its entire contents bi-weekly. I use odor-neutralizing air fresheners (psst… Febreze NOTICEables are awesome!) in the kitchen, living room, bathrooms and in my son’s bedroom, and fresh linen-type scents and reed diffusers throughout the other areas of the house. I keep the diaper pail closed, I stay on top of laundry, and once trash builds up in the bathroom and kitchen cans, out it goes. I also vacuum several times a week, and sweep and mop my kitchen floor weekly. The dog herself has a very neatly kept crate, and she gets bathed as needed.
But still. Smells happen. So you better believe I get a little paranoid and don’t hesitate to ask people for their HONEST opinion on the smelling conditions of my house!
