My name is Jenn, and I'm a 27 year old married and babied chick. In addition to a husband, a seven year old daughter, and a five year old autistic son, I also have four cats, three hermit crabs, two frogs, a few fish, and one snorty little Pug. Yes, it’s true. I never had a bridal shower. I never had a wedding rehearsal dinner, either. But that’s because I didn’t have a traditional wedding. My husband and I became engaged in August 2001, and planned to get married in 2005 or 2006, after we were more settled down and financially stable. But then I got pregnant with my now five year old daughter, Alyssa. We moved the wedding up to October 1st, 2004, and had a quick justice of peace wedding. We had already been together for four years, been engaged for three years and had been living together for the last two years; the marriage certificate just made everything official.
Do I regret not having a real wedding? Not really, though I sometimes think wistfully of a real wedding. But then I think of the hassle of wedding planning, bridal shower planning, honeymoons, wedding etiquette, and all of the EXPENSE that goes along with everything, and count my lucky stars that we did things the simpler way.
