Getting in the Christmas Spirit

Last Saturday night my mom and I went to see Mannheim Steamroller at the Philadelphia Academy of Music. It’s a little early for Christmas, but the two tickets to Mannheim Steam Roller’s Christmas concert were for November 14th only, so understandably we went that day, and I gave her the tickets a few weeks prior. I heard about the concert while watching Judy Judy one day. In between commercials for pond supplies and accident and injury lawyers, a commercial for the Mannheim Steamroller came on.
I had never been to the Academy of Music until last Saturday night, and wow, is that place ever gorgeous. It’s also quite old, and quite HUGE. Our seats were on the top tier balcony. Silly me picked the very first aisle, thinking that being up close would be a great view. Oh, it was a great view all right…
The people on the stage and floor area looked so TINY! What didn’t help, besides the obvious height, was the incredible steepness of the steps leading down to our seats. Also, in front of us there was a padded wall that came up to just above our knees, and then a thin metal bar about two feet above that. That’s it. Nothing else between us and a sheer drop off. I have a fear of heights, but it was my mom that really freaked out over the height and openness. Still, she managed to calm her nerves, and we enjoyed a great concert full of Christmas music.
