Hello!

My name is Jenn, and I'm a 27 year old married and babied chick. In addition to a husband, a seven year old daughter, and a five year old autistic son, I also have four cats, three hermit crabs, two frogs, a few fish, and one snorty little Pug. I work from home doing a variety of writing and even some web design. I love blogging, digital photography and web design.

About Kitty.nu

Kitty.nu has been around for several years. Once upon a time it was home to my personal blog (you can find that over at Jenn.nu), but it now serves as an outlet for my domesticated and wifey type ramblings.

I’m losing my hair. :(

Category:

One of the side effects of gastric bypass surgery is hair loss. To summarize: the sudden drastic reduction of nutrients and protein forces your body to redirect the nutrients and protein you do consume to vital organs. Hair is nowhere near vital to your survival, so it’s one of the first things to get bumped off the list of priorities.

This isn’t the first time I’ve dealt with some hair loss. About three months after I had Alyssa I started losing hair, but I don’t remember it being as bad as this. It happened again after I had Ryan, of course, since the loss of hair after pregnancy is completely hormone-related. But seriously, I don’t remember losing so much that I could feel a difference in my ponytail. This time around, I can. My hair is all over the house. I keep it up in buns and wads shoved inside large clips, so it doesn’t wind up in the food. It’s clogging our drain, it gets all over the inside of the bath tub and shower curtain, and I’m cleaning out my hair brush every 2 days or so. I swear, I have enough hair to keep two outdoor fireplaces going with!

Here’s to hoping I have hair left when this is all over with. :(

First of all, your picture looks amazing. You are doing great at losing weight and I think you’re strong for going through everything I read that you go through.

Your hair doesn’t look like it’s thinning or anything. I lose about as much as hair as you described daily and I have really thick hair, so maybe some of it’s normal. I’m sure once you get your stricture taken care of things will start to get better again.

My friend used a laser comb to encourage hair growth. She has pretty thin hair, so somebody recommended that she buy one. She got one from lasercombsusa.com
