It’s time for the Friday 5!
How many hours’ sleep do you need in order to be at your best, and what’s the minimum you can get on a regular basis and still be functional?
The cliche eight hours seems to do it for me. Though honestly, I can get up and moving and keep going for the day as long as I have at least seven and a half hours. I can survive on five and six, and I frequently do, but by mid-afternoon I am seriously dragging ass, and I often choose between working non-productively on an article about life insurance lead or catching a nap and then doing some turbo-charged writing work later in the evening.
What’s your favorite sleeping position?
On my back, nestled in with two pillows, Dan on one side of me, and Leah on the other.
What was the cause of your most recent difficulty sleeping?
Honestly? This goes back to when I had my gastric bypass surgery in November. I had a horrible time sleeping comfortably and getting a full night’s sleep for weeks afterward. It really sucked!
When you can’t seem to drift off to sleep right away, what are some things you do to bring about sleep?
I close my eyes, slow my breathing, and focus on whatever white noise there might be… usually from our ceiling fan, now that my awesome husband installed it. I also refuse to think about anything that will excite me or stress me out, as that’s the quickest way to get myself wound back up again.
When did you last doze off at an inappropriate time or in an inappropriate place?
It’s been a long time since I’ve fallen asleep somewhere “inappropriate”. Though I did doze off in the car yesterday afternoon… thankfully I wasn’t driving, LOL.

Yeah I can work on 5 hours sleep but by the afternoon I’m like urgh… might have to try the drifting sleep tip
