There is currently $80 worth of meat sitting in my fridge that I need to go vacuum-seal, but I’ll be damned if I have the desire or energy to go do it. I really should though, as I bought the meat about 22 hours ago (yes, I have the exact time down!), and I don’t like leaving it sit in its original packaging for more than a day. Why so much meat? Well, I have this habit of doing super-big shopping trips on a monthly or even bi-monthly basis. Heh. The last one I did was on February 9th, 2010. I know the date because that was the day I went to the doctor to figure out why I was so sick — as it turns out, I had pneumonia. And because a monster of a snow storm was moving in that very day (I actually had to drive home in it; a 20 minute drive took me closer to an hour and a half), I stopped at the grocery store with my mom (she had gone to the doctor too, as she also had pneumonia!). Since she wanted to “hurry” and get a bunch of stuff, I decided to just stock up on everything while we were there. I swear, I left that store with everything but the kitchen sink and some baby gifts!
So yes, back the monstrous amount of meat in my refrigerator. I’ve got the basics like ground beef, chicken breasts and chicken tenderloins, but I’ve also got a roast or two, a few hunks of steak, some boneless, center-cut pork loins (I hate cooking thick slabs of bone-in meat! And on that note, I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay for BONE!), a whole roaster chicken (Perdue’s oven roaster — yummy!), and even some fish products. I have my spiffy Kenmore vacuum sealer (a Christmas present from Dan) and four rolls of bags, so I’m good to go!
Now I just need to get some damn motivation and soon, and I’ll be off in the kitchen getting my domestic on.
