A few weeks ago Dan received free tickets to a local amusement park. Hitting up an amusement park this summer was high on the to-do list for me, as I have lost over 125 lbs. since the last time I was at an amusement park, and wanted to be able to go to one and actually ride all of the rides (needless to say, I was too fat for 99% of the rides the last time we went). So when I found out he had FREE tickets, I naturally started bugging him to set a date. We picked Wednesday, July 21st, 2010.
It wasn’t until eight days before the 21st that I thought to check Monthly Info and see when I was next due for my period. Of course it was due on the 21st! I freaked, of course. It’s not that I can’t “handle” my period and a day of activity. I can. But it’s messy, and uncomfortable, and have I mentioned messy? Blood, cramps, and tampons just don’t mix very well with water parks and roller coasters.
So… I got my hands on a week’s worth of birth control pills (Mircette, for those interested), and started taking them exactly eight days before my period was due to start. I took one per day, around 5:00pm, and took the last one on Tuesday the 20th. Come Wednesday, and then Thursday, and now today — no period! The pills worked because they kept my estrogen levels up. It’s the depletion of estrogen that triggers your period, as the uterus can no longer support its own lining. Keep the estrogen levels up, keep your period away. Yay!
Now I’m wondering when it will start (I had some major back pain yesterday afternoon and a bit of spotting), and how bad it will be. From everything I’ve read, the sudden “crash” from synthetic estrogen can cause the next menstrual cycle to be heavier, longer, and painful than usual. It’s a price I’ll happily pay, since I was able to enjoy a day at an amusement park sans tampons and discomfort!

I am going to do this next weekend because its the start my vacation and id like to enjoy it sans the period so I’m going to keep taking my pills.I don’t do it all the time thou, but I know ppl who do and its scary how dangerous it can be.
