Right now I’m up after crashing on the couch for about an hour, and even though I’m feeling quite alert helping a friend pick out stock the bar invitations, I have a feeling that it won’t be too long before I fall back asleep again. Have I mentioned how much I hate abdominal surgery? This is my fourth one in three years, and my third one took place just 8-9 weeks ago, on November 23rd, 2011. :/ Between what all my surgeon did this time – snipping/cutting/removing two different small sections of small intestine, and stitching up “voids” around my small intestines in 3-4 other areas – and having this surgery so close to the last one (all of my surgeries have been at least eleven months apart), well, no wonder I feel so wicked.

Right now I have three new BFFs, and they are:

Percocet (though I may try Vicodin tonight to see if I sleep any better after taking it)

Ice packs (they’re doing wonders for inflammation/general belly pain)

Velour blanket (perfect for cuddling up under)

For those of you who have had abdominal surgery, what are your favorite post-op comforts?

This is my pitiful excuse for a coupon binder. I am by no means an extreme couponer of course (would you believe that I threw out the majority of the coupons that came in last week’s Sunday paper?), but I still like a good deal. The other day I went to Target and managed to save $8 on a $214 purchase by using coupons. Yay for saving $8!

It’s amazing what all you can find coupons and online coupons for – food, personal products, makeup, household products, bachelorette invitations, etc. You name it, there’s most likely a coupon or a coupon code for it.

Of course, there are some products that there aren’t always coupons available for, such as the pet food I feed my dogs and cats, or the cat litter that I use for my cats (but of course there are plenty of coupons for the crappy brands that I don’t use).

But overall, I can find coupons to suit my shopping.

My motto for 2012 is being On Top Of My Shit, and my word for 2012 is Accomplish. The two go hand in hand nicely, don’t you think? So far, I’m doing good. I use Gmail for both my personal email accounts as well as my work ones, and its awesome labeling, archiving, and filtering features are really helping me stay on top of my game in terms of email management.

On the home front, I’m using Neat Receipts to take care of the digital storage of receipts and such – it offers categories as well as comments (“tags”, I liken them too), so I can easily categorize things such as medical co-pay receipts under the “Medical” folder, in the “Co-pay” category, and with our names (whoever the medical co-pay was for) as the comments/tags. Pretty snazzy.

And on the work front, I am pushing myself to do work as I receive it, even if it means working longer than anticipated or working during hours I hadn’t originally planned on working during. The result? My plate is almost always empty, baby.

Of course, it’s only late-January, so there is plenty of time for these resolutions and mottos and words to live by to fall to the wayside. But I’m going to do my best to stay on top of my game, because it’s nice to be on top.

So one thing I insist on doing every night is taking a shower. I usually use whatever shampoo or conditioner or body wash I’ve happened to buy at Target or Sephora, but recently I’ve been using a few of the items I purchased at EdenFantasys (yes, this sex toys retailer also carries a lot of bath, body, and beauty products!):

Fresh Fiore Creamy Body Wash

Supremely Rich Bath and Shower Froth

All of these products smell great, feel great, and leave my hair and skin feeling awesome. Worth noting about the shampoo: it’s not sulfate-free, so if you have color-treated or sensitive hair, you’ll want to take care when using this product.

Is it weird that I shower every single day, even when I don’t go anywhere? I used to shower in the morning, so I’d be fresh and squeaky-clean for the day, but in the mornings now I’m up and out of bed no later than 7:30am in order to make sure that Alyssa and Ryan are up and off to school, and then I jump right into work – so there’s no room in that busy morning dash for a shower. Besides, showering at night means slipping into bed fresh, clean, warm, and silky-smooth – and those are nice feelings when you’re falling asleep.

(Many thanks to EdenFantasys for their awesome product selection!)

Now that I’m no longer in plus size clothing (size 12-13 in bottoms, and M-L in tops, yeah baby!), I’ve really sat up and taken notice of just how mainstream plus size has become. Even as recently as two and a half years ago Target and other popular retailers only had a limited selection of plus size clothing – and the selection of junior plus size was almost never as stylish as the junior and regular sizes were. Now, I find the exact styles of clothing I wear in plus size – and that makes me happy. Because whether you’re 153 lbs or 351 lbs, you deserve to look and feel stylish, fashionable, and pretty.
