I’ve always had a weakness for Voortman Iced Almonette cookies. Those suckers are good. And if you think the pre-packaged ones are good, wait until you try the ones straight out of the case, if you’re lucky enough to live in an area where the cookies are delivered to grocery stores where they’re obviously a little fresher – and thus tastier – than what’s in the packages.

Last week I got hit with a mid-period mega craving for almond cookies. I was too lazy to make the actual cookies myself, but I searched around until I found one that looked to have high potential from All Recipes, then dropped subtle and not-so-subtle hints to Dan. Finally, on Sunday night, he made them. ♥

And yes, they are as deliciously tasting as they are looking.

A lot of women will know what I’m talking about when I mention specifically that time a week or so before your period, then again a week or so after your period, when it seems like you may be just on the verge of a dreaded yeast infection. But, like a tickle in your nose that doesn’t evolve into a full-blown sneeze, it goes away. Only… this didn’t. TMI, I know, but I’m miserable, and misery loves company, and since I blog, I blog my misery. Heh. A day and a half into my misery and Dan reminds me of a nearly full tube of prescription Nystatin & Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream that he has in the bathroom medicine cabinet from a fungal infection he had a few months ago. Yay! A full tube of prescription cream without the hassle, expense, and embarrassment of a doctor visit? I’m all for it. (Things I’m also all for: decent commercials that portray services like car title loans jacksonville as not always being sleazy. Yay!) Not to mention I’m all for the quick relief. So my plan for this evening is to finish up this blog entry, go take a nice warm shower and get all nice and clean, then break open that tube and go to town.

I have no idea what brought this on. I can count on one hand the number of yeast infections I’ve had in my lifetime. I have very scrupulous hygiene, and my hormones are in balance as far as I know. All I can think is that perhaps a long hike on a warm morning that I took part in last Saturday morning kind of pushed me “over the edge”, so that tickle-in-your-nose sensation did indeed evolve into a full-blown sneeze. Boo.

(You’re welcome for the TMI.)

I came across a blog earlier who had a question of the day type of thing going on, and today’s question was along the lines of, “What’s a wish for you, a selfish wish that is all about you, that you would love to have granted?”

I didn’t have to think long on that one. Here’s my answer: I’d like to wave a magic wand, or even a hair brush or a spatula, and rid my body of the excess skin that is hanging on it. Mainly, the excess skin that is on my upper arms (my bingo flaps), around my stomach, and the bit on my upper thighs. It’s embarrassing, and it does a huge number on my self esteem.

What’s your selfish wish for today?

Saturday was our day of physical activity – Ryan is in a special-needs Boy Scout troop, and we spent the morning at Hawk Mountain, trekking around in the woods and checking out the beautiful views at the various overlooks. We were pretty wiped out when we got home Saturday afternoon, and didn’t do much besides put things away, clean ourselves up, eat pizza, lay around, and go to bed early.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day, but that aside, it was also a total Gamer’s Day, which kind of spilled over from Saturday night. Dan and Ryan have been playing chess and checkers together, Dan and Alyssa have been playing Castlevania together, and Alyssa and Ryan have been playing Minecraft together. As for me, I’m not playing anything, unless you count Draw Something and Words With Friends, because I’m not a gamer. I’ve ignored all of the chattering about leveling up and getting stars and icon gloves and trophies and this, that, and the other thing, and have enjoyed my own stuff: blogging, photography, reading, and some random web surfing.

Since Ryan’s desktop computer is fairly old (it was manufactured in 2004, I believe), its integrated video card isn’t up to par for Minecraft, so he’s been playing it on Dan’s laptop. Fortunately video cards are pretty cheap, at least, the ones that are powerful enough to run Minecraft and other things. So, I’ll snag one from eBay sometime this week, I suppose. In the meantime, there are more than enough computers in this house to go around – seriously. There are four of us, and four desktop computers, two laptops, a Macbook, and a netbook. Oh, and two iPads! I’d say we’re good. LOL.

Weekends are so deceptively long. Then I blink and it goes from being Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening, just like that. I’m annoyed that I’m stuck working on my laptop today. First world problems, I know. But I want the glorious expanse of my desktop computer. Unfortunately, the keyboard is acting up, and despite moving the USB dongle transmitter thingy to another USB port, changing the batteries twice, and reconnecting the keyboard several times, I’m still having issues with keystrokes not being recognized, or being delayed, or being repeated. Ugh. There’s nothing quite like spending two minutes typing out what should take me less than five seconds. So, once I get paid (is it bad that I check PayPal every few minutes? I’m such an addict…speaking of which, the PayPal Android app developers need to get off their asses and develop push/home screen notifications. The iPhones and iPod Touches already have it, so why can’t the Android phones?!), one of the things I’ll be picking up is a new keyboard/mouse combo for my desktop setup.

Other plans for today hopefully include:

grocery shopping

oil change, new tires, and inspection for the Hyundai (Dan’s car)

clearing out my work inbox (who gave it permission to blow up on me?!)

What are you up to today?

I haven’t seen my dad in about two years. I haven’t talked to him on the phone in at least 15 months, and the majority of our correspondence over the past two years has been written, and most of it from me to him. He has sent birthday cards, Mother’s Day cards, and Christmas cards, but that’s about it. However, he sent me a Mother’s Day card this year, with an attached note that made me laugh, and made me realize how much I miss him, especially since I have no one else. And since Philadelphia is only a short drive away (a little over an hour), once I get paid this week I’m going to go down and see him for the day. I’ll probably take him out to Panera Bread for lunch, where we can catch up. And by catch up, I mean spend several hours talking, since he’s very talkative, and we have several years to catch up on. Sheesh. He’s been doing pretty much the same, as far as I know, but there have been a lot of life changes for me and for other family members (my mom, my brothers, etc.) that I only glossed over or touched briefly on in cards and letters.

I’m definitely taking my camera with me, because I don’t have a lot of photos of my dad, and that makes me sad. Here’s the only one I have of him online, and it’s from 1994. Needless to say, I need some updated ones!

(Yes, that’s ten year old me!)
