One annoying thing about school-aged children? The despair this work-at-home mom feels when there’s a three day weekend. I kid. But I won’t lie – when the work world is progressing like Monday, February 20th, 2012 isn’t in fact President’s Day, it’s hard for me not to feel pangs of longing for a school day, haha. So for that reason, yesterday was just an extension of my weekend, and today is my Monday.

My Tuesday-that-feels-like-Monday started off with dashing out of bed 11 minutes later than I should have. That 11 minute deficit combined with feeling tired and sluggish resulted in us really having to hustle to get the kids out the door (at 8:26am instead of 8:23am, and when you have to get to the bus stop, yes, those three minutes matter!). I put on my makeup while we were waiting at the bus stop, and didn’t even get my jewelry on until we were driving to our first destination – Waffle House! Dan and I are trying to take advantage of the fact that both Alyssa and Ryan are in school all day by going out to eat every few weeks, just the two of us. This morning we went to Waffle House. They’re not spectacular, but their food sure is delicious. I ordered a fiesta omelette, ate about a third of it, had a bite of one of Dan’s bacon strips, a bite of his waffle, and a few spoonfuls of grits, and called it a breakfast (and two hours later I’m still feeling full, blargh).

Right now Dan is taking care of a few work-related tasks, and once he’s finished with those (I brought my laptop along so I can be productive with my time while I’m waiting) we’re going to Target. Yay! I ♥ Target.

How’s your Tuesday going so far?

Some people are musically talented, or at least musically inclined. I? Am not one of them. I have a decent singing voice, and I was in chorus for all of elementary school, some of middle school, and all of high school. But when it comes to playing musical instruments, forget it. The extent of my talent is playing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Silent Night” on the piano – only because I taught myself using easy-to-follow sheet music and an electric organ when I was nine.

But believe it or not, there is a guitar in our house, though I’m sure it could benefit from the purchase of some Gibson guitar strings. The guitar was my brother’s, who gave it to Alyssa. I’m not sure where he got it from. My mom said she played guitar as a child, and my husband played the baritone horn in high school. Maybe there’s hope that one or both of my children may be more musically inclined than I am? And if not, there’s always chorus. Just because you can’t read music doesn’t mean you can’t sing. I’m proof of that.

Cake pops are for the birds. They’re cute, but man are they a mess. I bought a cake pop maker thinking that would help, and while it’s great for making perfectly round cake balls (or muffin balls or pancake balls or donut balls – basically anything that I want to bake into a sphere), it doesn’t do a damn thing to make the decorating of cake pops any easier. Ugh. I swear I’m going to be sweeping up sprinkles for the next week. And icing? I swear it got everywhere but where I wanted – coating the cake pops evenly.

Don’t let these close-up pictures of cute, colorful, and delicious cake pops fool you:

Kitty.nu has been long overdue for a new layout, and my desire for cleaner lines and a headline-appropriate font (none other than Rockwell Extra Bold) produced this. What do you think? The other layout…ick. I got tired of looking at it (even though I honestly see the WordPress-powered backend of my website more than the front of it). I’ll probably get tired of this one at some point, but at least the way I have it set up I can easily plop in a new header and change up the layout’s colors.

In other news, whoa, where the heck did the end of February come from? There are only eight days left to this month. I’m still thinking that it’s early January, and here we are, with March just a few days away. Before I know it the radio stations and TV channels will be full of commercials and advertisements for mothers day gifts; at least that’s one purchase I can cross off of my list this year (not that I fret over the cost – when it comes to gifts I stress more over what to buy, not how much I want to or can afford to spend).

Hmm. I think I’ll take the base for this new layout and use it on Mamahood.org – with a different header and colors, of course.

Bonus: because it was considered Valentine’s Day merchandise, it was 70% off. Score!

I also picked up a heart mold pan that has six heart-shaped molds – perfect for donuts, or even oven-baked pancakes. Oh the possibilities. (Listen to me, sounding all Martha Stewart.)

Over the last few months EdenFantasys has been expanding their product line to include big selections of bath, body, and beauty products, and my personal favorites – bras and panties. Unlike the bras and panties that are often paired with sexy pieces of lingerie, some of the newer additions to EdenFantasys’ line of apparel can actually be worn everyday, and they provide comfort, form, and function…and a bit of sexiness, too. Here’s a few that I currently have on my wishlist:

Lace Boyshort

I have some bath and body products on my wishlist, too, but I’ll probably feature those in another blog entry. I’ve recently dropped a few pounds and am fitting quite comfortably in a 36D bra (almost in a 34D, yay!), so I’m more interested in bras at the moment. Speaking of sizes, EdenFantasys has a lot of bras in many different sizes, so be sure to check out all that they have to offer at EdenFantasys.com.

Between Moo.com, TinyPrints.com, and VistaPrint.com, if there’s one thing I have a lot of, it’s business cards. But as a blogger, and more importantly as a blogger who partners with companies for product reviews, giveaways, and other sponsored content, it’s importantly that I have plenty of business cards on hand in order to do networking with. And while I really like the idea of having a high-quality plastic business card to hand to prospective companies and company representatives, it’s just not something I can see being feasible in terms of costs.

So, what do I do with all of these business cards? Well, the majority of them wind up being handed out at blogging conferences. I went to two blogging conferences in 2010 – BlogHer in August 2010, and Type-A Mom in September 2010. This summer I’m going to BlogHer again (with Amanda, squee!), and it should be a blast – and hopefully handing out all of those business cards will result in some great partnerships.
