My birthday cakes

Yes, cakes. I think it’s pretty ironic that the gastric bypass chick here had not one but THREE birthday cakes. Okay, so the first one — a cute little ice cream cake that we stuck a Wow Wow Wubbzy candle into — was from Jason, and that was had on June 7th, since Jason had plans to go away on the weekend of my birthday and wanted to celebrate with me before he left. I didn’t mind the early celebration, it gave me a brake from the design of baby shower decorations!

Then there was the birthday cake that Dan brought to the pool, where a little surprise party was held for me, with Dan, my mom, my brothers and the kidlets in attendance. Not an ice cream cake, but instead a yummylicious buttercream.

Finally, another cute ice cream cake, given to me on my birthday, at the party that Dan planned with his brothers and his brothers’ fiance and girlfriend, and Jason.

I’m a lucky girl. ♥ And those cakes were awesomely delicious!

So I turned 26 yesterday. Blech. 24 was kind of iffy, 25 was kind of sucktacular because it meant officially straddling the line between 20 and 30, but now I’m closer to 30 than I am to 20. And that? Just sucks. But I had a great birthday weekend! On Saturday, my mom, brothers and Dan met the kids and I at the pool and surprised me with pizza, a birthday cake, and presents (a new Bissell carpet cleaner and a $20 gift card from Dan; a shirt from my mom; and books from my brothers)! Then, yesterday, my actual birthday, after I spent a few hours at the pool with the kids, I met Dan at home, showered and changed into fresh clothes, and then was taken over to his brother’s house, where his brother, his brother’s fiance, Jason, his other brother’s girlfriend, and eventually the other brother (he was at work until 11:00pm) all celebrated. There was grilled food, pasta salad, baked ziti (SO good), a super-yummy Carvel birthday cake, and loads of alcohol. And a pool. The pool was best of all.

My 26th birthday has been the best birthday I have had so far in life. I love my family so much! ♥

I thought weekends were for relaxation

My weekend absolutely knocked me on my ass. Saturday morning I was up and running on barely five hours of sleep, and I spent the day doing laundry, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, steam cleaning, and changing bed sheets. I ran out on Saturday afternoon to pick up a small helium tank (a complete rip, by the way. It has enough helium for 30 tennis ball sized balloons, or one large Mylar balloon and six regular sized latex balloons) and another roll of blue crepe paper, and then I went over to the local grocery store to pick up the birthday cake and party platter I ordered on Thursday afternoon.

Danielle and Matt arrived right at 6:00pm, and we had ravioli for dinner and chocolate pudding for dessert. After the kids went to bed we relaxed with our laptops, while Dan played a PS2 game that Matt brought over.

Yesterday… the party! All thoughts of researching and writing about Tennessee injury lawyers and various other topics went out the window by noon, because that’s when Danielle, Matt and I took Ryan to the local pool. We frolicked in the water for about two hours, and then came back and quickly showered and dressed in time for guests to start arriving at 3:00pm.

The party went by quickly, a fun blur of squealing, running around kids, food, birthday cake and presents. Ryan loved his presents, and everyone loved the food and especially the cake.

I collapsed into bed by 11:30pm, and after Dan came to bed we were both out by 12:30am. I slept straight through until 9:00am this morning, but let me tell you, I still feel tired!

Happy 50th Birthday Mom!

My mom turned 50 yesterday! We had a nice little birthday party for her here at our house. Present were Daniel, Alyssa, Ryan and myself (of course), along with my mom, my brothers and our friend, Jason. I made my mom’s special request – juicy marinated steak, baked potatoes, corn on the cob and pasta salad. I also ordered a very delicious cake from a local grocery store. And there were birthday presents, of course. Cards, and from us a necklace, earrings and a family themed photo frame.
