On Monday Dan took the kids and my brother out to a Christmas tree farm, and came back with an eight foot monstrosity that is way too big for our living room but nevertheless quite gorgeous, especially since Dan indulged me and decorated the tree with pink lights to go along with the pink star tree topper and pink sequined tree skirt. ♥

Christmas bokeh

Two years ago my friend Jason gave me a Lensbaby Muse for Christmas. Total squeal-worthy present, by the way. Two years later and I still adore it! Anyway, one of my favorite things about the Lensbaby is the ability to create awesome bokeh shots. And my favorite time of year to whip out the Lensbaby is at Christmas (I dream of photo goodness while the kidlets dream of toys!), when there are plenty of Christmas lights to bokeh-fy.

Christmas shopping? Already? Maybe!

This week is payday, and Dan may be getting not one but two bonuses. Squeal! If so, we’re going to be doing our Christmas shopping this weekend. I really hope so, because I want to get it out of the way so we don’t have to worry about it come December. If the bonuses are there, the plan is to have my fifteen year old brother babysit for us so that we can go out sans-kids, hehe.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? How long does it usually take you to get it all done?

Pondering holiday invitations

With November just a few days away, my mind is switching into holiday gear, and first and foremost on my mind is holiday invitations. How will I acquire them this year? We could buy some standard ones at Target. We could use Adobe Photoshop to make our own cards. Or we could check out Shutterfly or TinyPrints. Gah… so many options!

How are you planning on coming up with holiday invitations this year? If you have any great suggestions, please share!

I’m really interested in putting together several cookie recipe jars as Christmas gifts for family and friends. Bakerella’s Mix Things Up has me looking up local craft stores so I can buy eight to ten Bell jars. I have all the ingredients necessary, minus red & green M&Ms (for Christmas, of course).

It’s weird, but since having kids and especially since having my own home I’ve been really into trying out new things with cleaning, organizing, cooking and baking. Last summer I made Hello Kitty Cake Pops and Blue’s Clues cupcakes. I experiment with cookies, bake cookies to give as holiday presents, and now I’m looking to give away cookie recipes in adorable jars with Christmas. Sheesh, what next?

The presents are wrapped and under the tree, the stockings are hung (with care, of course) and stuffed, and Dan and I are ready for bed. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas morning!

She’s making a list, and checking it twice

In front of me is a list of all of the people we are giving gifts to this year. I have names written and underlined in permanent marker, and their gifts beneath them. So far I’ve just listed the gifts we’ve purchased. With the exception of two things (one hasn’t yet arrived, and the other requires a gift bag, which I don’t have), all of the things we have purchased are wrapped and under the Christmas tree. I want to put bows on the gifts, but between kids and cats, I think I’ll save the bow-affixing until the night before Christmas.

I can’t believe how good we’re doing with Christmas preparation this year. While the rest of you are dawdling with decoration purchasing, perusing ads for Outer Banks rentals, and just generally slacking off, we’ve got all of our decorations up, our cards mailed out (cards to friends and family went out a week ago, and cards to online friends went out today!), and we’re halfway done our Christmas shopping. Usually we don’t even start on decorations until around now, and Christmas shopping next week or the week after, so I’m impressed at how much we’ve gotten accomplished so far.

Here is our lovely Christmas tree (the photo was taken last week, hence the lack of presents under it):
