Why hello there, old friend

Five years ago I excitedly bid on a snazzy black spaghetti strap top. The seller reported it as being a 3X, so I figured at 280ish lbs., I should be able to get into it. HAH. When it arrived, I was bummed to see that it was a cheap store 3X, which is more like a 1.5X, if such a size existed. (To add insult to injury, I later found out that the top sold at DEB stores for $15.99. The eBay seller auctioned off several of them for $40+!) But I liked it so much that I refused to get rid of it. It’s been hanging in one closet after another (since we have moved three times since then), and finally… it fits.

Ditto for this Fruit Loop type shirt, heh. Only this one came from Fashion Bug and was $24.99 in the summer of ’05. I wore it a few times, but since it didn’t fit well, it too spent its time in my closet… until now!

Those tanks + a few other “tighter” (100 lbs. ago, anyway) tanks + a few new cheap tanks I picked up = I am all set for the summer. For tops, anyway. I still need to get some capris and skirts!

Last month Pajama Mommy held a giveaway for a free shirt from Alight, and guess who won? I went to the post office today to mail a package and pick up a money order, and while I was there I checked my PO box, and found this waiting for me.

I call the color sickly-shit-brown. I’m not impressed with this shade; I would have much rather have a hoodie in black, brown, or even “mustard”, but I’m not complaining too much, because the hoodie is fleece, which means it’s warm. And these days? I am ALL ABOUT the warm. Seriously, I am COLD all of the time. Those extra 105 lbs. kept me nice and warm. Now I walk around huddled up in hoodies and sweaters all of the time, and half of the time I’m still cold!

So thanks Alight. I may not wear this out of the house, but I’ll definitely be cozying up in it IN the house!

Is it really July already? I swear, this year is going way too quick. Not too much longer and we’ll be thinking about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and then running around like chickens without heads preparing for Christmas.

But for right now, I’m enjoying the summer. I have three spiffy new swimsuits to enjoy! Two are from Old Navy, and the other is from Fashion Bug. I can’t find an online picture of the suit I got from Fashion Bug, but here are the two I got from Old Navy:

Isn’t it funny how those suits are definitely plus size ones (they’re available in sizes up to 4X!), but the mannequins are most certainly not? Ugh. So annoying. Throw some flab on there so I can get a realistic preview, thank you very much!

I haven’t really updated my wardrobe in close to three years. Two years ago I was pregnant. Last year I was breastfeeding, and found it hard to find tops that contained the girls without being all stretched and out of proportion looking. But this year, I’m free. Free as a bird! So between Target and two trips to Fashion Bug, I am stocked with a few new pairs of capris, seven new tops, a pair of flip-flops, a pair of wedges, and a swimsuit. I already showed you the swimsuit (see: The only time you’ll see my thighs), so without further ado, here are the newest tops, capris and adorable purse that after eyeing both online and in store, I finally decided to purchase:

The only time you’ll see my thighs is during the summer — specifically, when I go swimming. Otherwise, those bad boys are safely under wraps, thanks to the miracle of capris! Before I discovered capris, I went around dying in jeans. True story. :/

So anyway, I went swimsuit shopping last weekend. For the last few years I’ve been getting those two-piece “tankini” things, but since having Ryan, my stomach has this nice little deflated ring around it (thanks so much, darling son of mine), and the top part of the suit would get caught on it and roll up. Embarrassing. :X So back to one pieces it is! Only, I didn’t want anything high cut, too low cut, and definitely no long granny skirts.

Enter, my dream come true:

Have I magically been transformed from a size 24 to a 4 (hell, I’d even take a 14!)? Is the flab gone? Do my thighs no longer meet? No, no and no. BUT, for a fat girl, I’m pretty bangin’ in this particular suit. Even with the little flouncy skirt.

I’m a typical woman when it comes to my love of shopping. It’s awesome to be a mom, because I ALWAYS have a reason to shop. I can shop for myself, for my husband, for the house, for the cats, for the cars, and of course, for baby clothes for Alyssa and for Ryan. Right now I’m in the process of stocking up on spring and summer clothes for both kids. Alyssa hasn’t done too much growing weight-wise in the last year, so the pants that were loose last year and very long in the leg will fit perfectly this spring! She has a lot of t-shirts and tank tops, and quite a few summer skirts and dresses, so the only things left to get are a few pairs of capris and shorts, and most definitely a swimsuit. I’m really picky with swimsuits. I’m bored with the standard suits you see at Target and the like, and I’m not fond of the bikini style swimsuits that seem so popular for little girls.

This swimsuit, for instance, is lovely. I love the pink, I love the frilly, floral ballerina style of the swimsuit. The one thing I do not like, however, is the fact that it’s a two piece! Imagine how perfect it would be if it were a one piece. Now, I know I may seem a bit prudish, but is it really necessary to bare the bellies and non-existent chests of our toddlers and young girls? They’re going to be doing enough of it once they hit their teens. We should try to protect their innocence as long as we can… and another good argument for a one piece? One less area of skin to risk getting sunburned!
