I really loved having the opportunity to send flowers to my husband. I thought it was sweet, and definitely a bit of a surprise. As far as the where, well, I checked around with a few local florists before ultimately placing an order with 1-800 Flowers. I found a coupon code to use, so that was nice.

Anyway, I talked to Dan not long after he received the flowers, and he was very happy. ♥

Dan doesn’t go out “with the boys” (his brothers, usually, and oftentimes Jason) very often, but when he does, he often turns it into an all-night affair. I’m okay with that. I really am. But what I am not okay with is hearing from him around 10:30pm that he’ll be home “soon” or “in an hour or so”, and then hours go by with no sign of him or a message from him. Again, to repeat the title of this blog entry, it’s not about control. It’s about knowing where the fuck you’re at so I’m not worrying about you! A simple, “Still out, won’t be home until X AM” message will suffice, and it doesn’t take that long to send. Argh.

Last night was no exception. He went out around 10PM, said he’d be back soon, and then we talked a little before midnight and he said he would be leaving “shortly”. At 2:45am I woke up to use the bathroom, and imagine my surprise — and worry — when the spot next to me was still empty. Despite Dan’s belief, my initial thought wasn’t, “Wow, what an asshole, how can I control him if he won’t come out when he says he will?”. Instead it was, “It’s 2:45am, it’s super late, I know he was tired earlier, I haven’t heard from him, it’s raining like crazy and rather foggy out… I hope he’s okay!!!”

Dan is fine, by the way. When I woke up around 7AM he was there next to me. As it turns out he didn’t drag himself home until nearly 4. *eyeroll*

August is over half over, and I’ve been in a constant whirlwind state since the beginning of it. I left for BlogHer ’10 on August 5th, and spent about a week beforehand doing twice the amount of work I normally do in order to prepare for being gone for four days. I got back from BlogHer last week, and promptly had my hoarse voice blossom into full-blown bronchitis. Who gets bronchitis in August? Yours truly, of course.

Dan and I celebrated our ten year anniversary, which was on Monday, by going to a local amusement park. We originally planned on going to Six Flags Great Adventure, which is 2.5 hours away, but I called my surgeon on Monday morning to find out about getting some gallbladder issues diagnosed, and it was either go in to see her/get testing done that morning, or three to four weeks from now. I’ve had three attacks in a month now, with the last one being last Saturday and quite painful and long-lasting, so we turned around and headed over to the office for an appointment, and then to the hospital for an ultrasound. The ultrasound was negative for gallstones and inflammation, but “sludge” build-up in the gallbladder is both common and undetectable via an ultrasound, so I’m going back to the hospital tomorrow for a CT scan and a HIDA scan. Fun fun.

Anyway, Dan and I did have a great time at the local amusement park. We were there a few weeks ago, but were too tired to stay the entire evening and finish all of the rides. This time we did the roller coasters we missed last time, as well as a few other rides. It was great being there with just each other. ♥
