A few weeks ago my husband dragged me into Walmart (a store I loathe), and while we were there my daughter asked for new sneakers. I was hesitant to get her Walmart sneakers, since I usually take her and Ryan to sneaker stores for high-quality, albeit more expensive sneakers, but I went ahead and agreed when she and Ryan each found a cute pair. And at $15, I figured what’s the harm.

What’s the harm indeed. In less than two weeks Alyssa’s sneakers are falling apart around the tongue of each shoe, and they look months old rather than weeks old. And the soles on Ryan’s shoes are separating from the body of the shoes. It looks like I should have stuck with my first impulse, which was to JUST SAY NO to Walmart’s kids’ sneakers.

I’m seriously in love with Zenni Optical. I wrote about them several times in the past, but only recently decided to try them out for myself. And man, am I glad I did! I have two pairs of glasses from them, and the price of both + shipping came to a combined total that is less than $50. AMAZING. I am seriously used to dropping two hundred bucks or more on just ONE pair of glasses. Now granted, these aren’t the highest quality frames out there, and I’m sure that the ultra thin lenses available in some optometrist offices will blow Zenni Optical’s lenses right out of the water, but for a cute, durable, stylish and functional pair of eyeglasses, you can’t be beat. Here are the two pairs I have:

Why glasses, when I’m such an avid and devoted wearer of contact lenses? Eh, sometimes glasses are handy. I like having a current pair to fall back on for those days where I’m sick or tired, those evenings where my eyes desperately need a break from contacts, or when I’m just feeling too lazy to put my contacts in.

Needless to say, I highly recommend Zenni Optical. Turnaround time from order date to delivery date seems to be about twelve days, which isn’t bad at all!

There are thousands of scents out there, and for a good reason: we all like different things. I’m not sure what my scent preferences are, but some of my favorites are Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels in Desire and Heavenly, Victoria’s Secret Secret Garden Collection in Love Spell, and Victoria’s Secret Sexy Little Things NOIR. I have a new favorite now: Aromatherapy Body Lotion Sensual – Sandalwood Fig from Bath & Body Works. I stopped in there last night for another lotion, then spotted this one and tried it on. By the time I made it to the other end of the store, I was so in love with the Sandalwood Fig that I doubled back and got that instead. When I came out to where my mom was sitting on a bench and offered her my wrist to smell, she immediately recoiled and said, “Ugh, that’s disgusting!” And she wouldn’t shut UP about how much she hated it. Grrr. Okay, I get it, it’s not your scent. But you know what? That perfumey floral crap that you wear is cloying and disgusting half the time, but I don’t complain! Just as I don’t complain about your old lady polarized sunglasses, or your tendency to drive slooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww.

In other news, the stray kitty is a keeper, provided that nobody claims him (I’m going to put up Lost Cat signs, but I won’t post photos or a description, in case someone comes to claim him without actually having a claim on him, know what I mean?) and the vet doesn’t find a microchip. But seeing as how I remember hearing his distinctive meow (note: LOUD, ergh) a few weeks ago, the intact testicles (those bad boys are going ASAP!), the scabs on his ear from where he must have gotten into a fight with another stray, and the dead fleas and flea debris I scrubbed out of him this afternoon (he wasn’t thrilled about getting a bath, but he didn’t fight or try to get away, whew!), I’m 99.9% certain that he is a stray, and doesn’t belong to anyone.

His name? Ares. Dan picked it. ♥

Last Friday I went out to the mall. I hit up Kohl’s for a pair of jeans, Sephora for an Urban Decay eye shadow (in Minx), and Victoria’s Secret for a bottle of So Sexy shampoo. Total spent? $4.24. I know, I know, impossible and all that jazz. Well the jeans were purchased using store credit earned from returning a pair that were too big (and I still have about $7 in store credit left! Whee!). The eye shadow was purchased with store credit earned from returning another eye shadow (Sephora brand; I already had that color and didn’t realize it, oopsies). And the shampoo? It was $10.00, and I used a $10.00 gift certificate that Pamela generously sent to me out of the blue (thank you Pamela!).

I swear, $4.24 is the smallest amount of money I have ever spent in the mall. I normally spend that on an overpriced bottle of water for myself and an Auntie Anne’s pretzel for Dan and/or the kids. So it was nice to walk out with goodies and all of my money still in my wallet. ♥

This past October I was introduced to the wonder that is Sephora. I was on the hunt for hot pink glitter eyeliner, and someone on Twitter recommended Too Faced Cosmetics. From there I looked up Sephora because I didn’t want to pay $5 shipping for a $18 glitter eyeliner, so off I went. I spent $165 that day. Eep. I think the least I’ve spent in there was $29, and the amount was only so little because I had a $15 coupon.

Anyway, for Christmas my wonderful husband gave me a $40 Sephora gift card. Sweet! I managed to hold onto it for four days. Tonight I couldn’t wait any longer, but rather than deal with brutally cold weather, a five year old that loves to try on every sample within reach and an impatient three year old, I went online to spend the $40. It’s just as well, since I know if I was in the store it would be a LOT harder to resist all of that colorful, glittery goodness.

So what did I get? Well, I picked out two Sephora shadows and a Sephora glitter eyeliner in the following colors:

This is what I have so far from Sephora (left: Sephora shadows; right: Urban Decay shadows; NOT PICTURED: three spectacular glitter liners).

My lovely collection is growing! Move over Maybelline, Loreal, and Revlon. Sephora is here to stay! ♥

Approximately nine years ago my mother purchased a pair of Skechers shoes for me. They were chocolate brown, slightly high-top in style, and featured a thick, chunky, ridged sole. I loved them. They went great with jeans, breeches, skirts, whatever. They were hardcore, comfortable and what my grandfather termed as being shit-kickers. They were also durable and comfortable to wear while I worked (as a closer in a fast food restaurant), and non-slip (though they weren’t advertised as being such. I wore those bad boys day in and day out for about three years, until they finally fell apart.

I never had another pair of Skechers after that until the pair of low-top brown ones I purchased last Friday afternoon.

I’m in love! ♥ They’re great, though they’re a little stiff, and because I’ve been wearing flip-flops and other soft shoes for so long, my stupid feet are a bit sensitive to the stiffness and weight of the Skechers. But don’t worry, I’ll get them broken in.

I’m so happy!
